Guns in Bars and Restaurants
Gov. Nikki Haley signed into law a new bill that allows concealed weapons permit holders to take their weapons into restaurants that serve alcohol. See Bill 308. In short it is now legal to carry a handgun into a business that serves alcohol provided you have a concealed weapons permit. However, if the owner/operator of the business posts a sign “NO CONCEALABLE WEAPONS ALLOWED” then you may be charged under the law.
Additionally, if permitted on the premises, the person carrying the concealed weapon cannot consume alcohol. How a business owner will know if a patron consuming alcohol is carrying a concealed weapon (thus the term concealed) is not really clear to me but South Carolina is the 46th state in the country to adopt such laws.
Penalties under the new misdemeanor law if convicted is up to 2 years in prison and a $2,000 fine.
